Raising a Militia
What: Information Session on Raising a Militia
Where: Edwarsburgh-Cardinal Township Council Upstairs When: Thursday, November 17, 2011 • 18:00 With the War of 1812 Bicentennial approaching, it has Spencervillians thinking - we need a militia to ward off those Yankees! On Thursday, November 3, local men plan to gather and learn how they can raise a militia and handle muzzle-loading muskets. The head of the Canadian Fencibles, David Smith, will run an information session explaining the intricacies of living history battles. Plans to defend Spencerville and the area from a possible invasion would be discussed as well. The session begins at 18:00 in the upstairs of the Edwardsburgh-Cardinal town hall in Spencerville. To the man who can muster the most support for the Spencerville militia (in terms of bodies, money or both), naming rights will be given. Just think, you too could be part of Purcell's or Sloan's Company of Sedentary Militia Rifles! If you're a capable patron, imagine your last name immortalized by bestowing an honorary rank of command. The Spencerville Militia will be raised in advance of the Bicentennial Heritage Fair next June 1-3, 2012. For more great events visit our Bicentennial Heritage Fair home page. |
