Seasonal Museum Manager    
This position is open to a university/college student, under age 29, in the field of Museum Studies, History, Public History, Digital Humanities, Canadian Studies, Tourism, Human Resources, or Public Administration. Candidates must have been full-time students during the previous academic year and be returning to school full-time for the next academic year.
 
Position requirements
Applicants must have experience in administrative duties, website content development and social media content, excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Must feel comfortable and show experience at directing other staff, volunteers and network with businesses and organizations; must be highly organized, self-motivated, able to manage time and be flexible, with demonstrated ability to work independently and with a volunteer team. Ability to develop and communicate innovative projects within a budget is a great asset. Some evening/weekend work required.
 
Job description
  • Supervise and mentor summer student employees as they carry out day-to-day internal operations
  • Provide customer service: offer guided tours of the museum, manage facility rentals, gift shop and Regency clothing rentals. This includes managing inventory, overseeing banking procedures, scheduling and supervising sales assistants.
  • Oversee communications activities with focus on Mill’s planned cultural programs re Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. Prepare written material, video, audio or web-based information
  • Participate in social media constructing historically related content making use of our archival and museum holdings. Social Media will be used to generate interest and disseminate knowledge about the Mill, its history, the history of the region particularly that selected to help celebrate Canada 150.
 Employment contract 10 weeks, 35 hour week.   Start work date: June 20, 2016
 Pay from $12 - $15  per hr commensurate with qualifications.
