What are the unique features of this venue?
The historic Spencerville Mill offers a picturesque setting inside with its 20-foot high ceilings, tall heritage windows and old wooden beams. It also offers practical features including a kitchen and servery, well maintained washrooms and a parking lot. Outside, guests enjoy the sound of rushing water over the South Nation river dam as well as its blue heron and white geese visitors. Inside or out, this locale offers wonderful wedding photo opportunities.
When is the Mill available?
The Mill and Mill Park are available for rentals May to October inclusive. The Mill is unheated so there will be extra charges for heat in the cooler parts of spring/fall. The Mill is open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm daily during the summer months and not available for rent during this time period unless a special arrangement is made.
What Decorations Are Permitted?
Because of its heritage importance, no staples, confetti, candles or open flames are permitted. All decorations must be approved by the Spencerville Mill Foundation (SMF) Event Manager but there is ample opportunity for creative decoration. And there are lights with dimmers for additional atmosphere as well as plugs for microphones or music.
Are There Kitchen Facilities?
Our recently refurbished kitchen space is designed as a servery for caterers bringing in prepared food. It houses a full size refrigerator with freezer, full size oven and microwave, three sinks and counter space for plating food. Please note that we recommend bringing in bottled water for your guests as our tap water is not potable.
Can We Move Displays/ Artifacts?
The movement of artifacts and displays is prohibited except by special arrangement. This movement can only be done by an SMF Board member. There are four large pieces of stationary machinery that cannot to be touched. Even so there is ample room for sit-down dining or a mix & mingle reception. There are also plugs for microphones or music and adjustable lighting.
